Do I have Trim?

I have a mid-'70's Merc 65hp. I have to pull a long pin out to adjust the tilt.

But there are these little shock absorber thingies (well, maybe only one, I haven't looked at it yet this season) that attach the motor to the mount. Does that mean I have power trim, just not hooked up? Can't figure out what the shock absorbers are for, otherwise.

Unless you have hydro cylinders attached ,you don't have power trim.My guess is the rubber bushings are a shock ab for when your traveling, But if you can't use a transom saver, you should let your motor down when traveling and use a bunging strap to hold it againest the transom,to relieve stress on it.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by rubber bushings. No, these are shock absorbers - these look like small car shock absorbers, the cylinders being about 8" long, with one on each side of the mounting bracket. Are these the "hydro cylinders" you mean? If they are, then how do I make THEM do the work of raising/lowering my engine?

It sounds like you may have the hardward that you need.Is there any piping or tubing coming from them? And if yes were do they go to? You will need a hydraulic pump, and controls. And which im not to familiar with.SORRY!

Thanks, abarron. No, there is nothing coming from those shocks - no wires or tubes of any sort.

I would ask a fellow boater there at the dock about it.

Sounds like you have the cylinders, but someone has robbed your trim pump. Pics would confirm this. If the "cylinders" have a hole on them that is threaded, but no hydraulic lines, then that is what you have.

Best of Luck!
