Do I need a new alternator?

Hi, I have a 92 omc inboard 5.0. My stereo amp keeps shutting off at over 2k rpm and I put a meter on my battery and noticed my voltage shoot up to 16+V when I get the rpm around 2.5k. Battery is new so thinking it is probably the alternator or voltage regulator? Thoughts?

With it going up to 16V I would say you may need a new ALT

Do check all the wires going to the ALT. If one of them is not connected correctly, or has a bad connection then the ALT may not be able to sense the voltage level and it will keep rising

Yea I think so too.....Any recommendation on where to get one? Does it have to be a marine, or can I go to a parts store and buy one ford a Ford 5.0?

It has to be marine, while I don't know you, I don't want you or your guest to go boom

Would need to know which ALT you have now
Take some pics of it, or look for model number

Prestolite bem2004kb on the sticker attached to the alternator. I believe it's a 51 amp. I googled and found a couple that were suppose to be direct aftermarket replacement, one was made by Arco?
