I have a Mercury 115HP ('93) motor and it doesn't have a trim tab. It was gone when I bought the boat. Do I need to replace this?

Yes you need it. As well as being an anode, it corrects for steering torque produced by the propeller. Without the tab the steering will be pulling one way all the time....

Oddly I've not noticed it pulling. Any idea where I can pick one up?

The annode should be zinc for fresh water and can get at any marine supply store or online supplier. Look in the iboats store.

Sorry to be so dense on this, but is this something specific to the motor or are they universal and pretty much one size fits all? If so, then I'll try to pick one up local.

Specific to the motor.
there may be motors that use the same one.
take serial number of motor, to a merc dealer or whoever.
It also helps to prevent galvanic reaction/corrosion.

They fit a wide variety of Mercs and they will more than likely have it in stock. Probaly around $15.
