I was wondering if i needed to chamfer the ports on my '57 johnson after honing. I didn't oversize the bore i just honed it to get a crosshatch and to put new rings on it. It was seized up for a long time and i just recently pulled the piwerhead appart. Any help would be appreciated

If the edge feels sharp, yes. If the original chamfer is still there maby not. Kind of depends on how much honing you did. Hope someone else has a clearer answer.

I used a universal 3 prong deglazing tool. There doesnt appear to be much of a chamfer. Just wondering but most of the info online about chamfering ports is for the rectangular ports whereas mine are like 4 or 5 small circles in a row to make up 1 port amd was wondering if there is any difference in procedure. I will try to post pics when my computer decides to cooperate.

I always used a ball hone to chamfer the ports and it worked good.

No you don't need to re-hone the motor. Feel around the edges of the port see if there are any sharp edges very seldom will honing take out the factory chamfer unless the bore is really worn. The dis-advantage of a straight hone is if you have high and low spots the hone will ride over it and not hit, that is also it's advantage because you can see the high and low spots and how out of round it is. The biggest dis-advantage of a ball hone is it follows all of the bore it will not high-lite anything out of round or high and low spots. If you are worried about the edges of the ports hit them with emery cloth to knock down any sharp edges and make sure you clean the block really well. Especially the ports because the shavings will build up in there from the honing process. I personally never use a ball hone on 2 strk motors.
