Do I need to remove the propeller shaft?

1972 Johnson 100hp hydroelectric shift model #100ESL72R

I am replacing the impeller. While I am in there I would like to replace the seals and o-rings.

Question: Do I have to remove the propeller shaft to replace the two seals and o-ring on the propeller shaft?

I have the OEM manual, but I is not clear to me. The manual just tells you to disassemble/reassemble.

No shaft removal needed, just remove carrier and replace seals and o-ring.
