I have a 95 130HP Johnson outboard. I took the lower gear assembly off to service the water pump when I noticed the megaphone gasket was not installed correctly and was not sealing correctly. I though well I will just unscrew the out muffler housing but after taking off all the bolts it just won't come off. The service manual says that I need to take the powerhead off but really I just want to change the seal at the end of the exhaust megaphone???? Is there any way to change this seal without removing the engine?

There are two #50 on that parts breakdown, The one I have to change is the one on the end of the megaphone

You should be able to change these with just the lower unit off. What manual do you have ?? You can pull the exhaust housing out and change the seals.

I have the OEM manual and they say to remove the powerhead off. I have all the bolts off for the exhaust housing and its not coming off.

I have the engine, adapter and outer exhaust housing suspended from a chainfall. The exhaust housing is all unbolted as well as all the bolts between the engine and the adapter and between the adapter and the exhaust housing. Neither wants to separate. I think the bolts holding the upper engine mount is holding the exhaust housing to the adapter but I have no idea why the base of the engine isn't breaking free of the adapter. It seems to be stuck hard. I only broke one bolt while taking all the bolts out. broke a small bolt near exhaust exit on the adapter so I really need to separate the base of the engine in order the get the rest of it out.

Finally I got it off. I had to heat the base with a torch to break the bond. I got everything cleaned up, cleaned all the threads and bolt passages and now just waiting for parts to arrive.

One thing I did learn was the outer exhaust housing cannot be removed without removing the engine and adapter because the upper motor bolts are inside the adapter. I guess one of the main reasons it would not release was the studs were stuck in the stud holes by that white aluminum powder.
