Lost my upper gear set in my mc-1 outdrive last year at the end of season - low oil. The top gears were shredded. I've found an alpha 1 g1 upper. I'd like to take my lower half of mc-1 and mate it to the a1g1 upper (it's the right ratio for the boat)- but do I have to worry about shredded gear pieces now in the lower of my mc-1 ??? Do I need to somehow flush it ? (if so with what - some gas ? will this hurt the seals ? )

This is all new to me - I'm a home mechanic and have decided to do this myself rather than spend $$$'s with the marina - It's time I learned anyway. I know I need to change the h20 pump and put in new oil - both will be a first for me - and I'll be changing the h20 pump every 3 years now and checking the oil level every season now.

Please & thanks in advance for your help guys.

No first hand knowledge, but most here will tell you that short of disassembling the lower and cleaning, you'll end up trashing your new upper from the debris.
