i purchased my 81 21 aquasport 6 mos. ago. the guy i bought it from said it was a 91 johnson 200 it even says it on the repair receipt. i went to replace the water pump today and couldn't find the electronic shift wires. well mine doesn't have electronic shift wires the gears are changed mechanically... my manual said that years 76-77 had mechanical shifting..also the engin cowling says vro.. what years were those made? im a lil confused at this point... any help

iv got a single cdi power pack vs. the 77 having 2... is it possible that the engine could be a 91 and lower end be a 76 or 77

Can you get the model numbers off of the motor? They are on the transom bracket, and may also be stamped on a plug on the powerhead.

i didnt see a badge on the engine just 331007 on the block... the lower unit has e200txcuc.. the only thing i can come up with is the guy had a lower unit from and older engine and mounted a 91 engine on it

Did you get the numbers e200txcuc of a little plate on the transom bracket?
They mean that you have a 1987 year number on the the transom bracket.

ya it came off the little plat on the transom bracket... could my motor be an 87 as well? did johnson make 87 with vro and 1 power pack?

It could be a 1991 replacement block on the outboard.Just check the numbers on the plugs(not the spark plugs) on the engine.If they are the same as on your transom bracket then it is all 1987.If they are different,the block is different.
Yes,in 1987 there was a VRO,but it had 2 power packs where the ,91 has one power pack

Rolmops is correct about what may have happened but 200 loopers of any year were never a electric shift.
