I am re assembling my lower unit. My particular model does not have a gasket for the impeller housing or the stainless steel plate in the housing. I was trying to remember what I had read a couple weeks ago.............so if I remember right, I need to use my avaition gasket sealant on the impeller housing where any metal surfaces meet eachother, and do I also need to coat the outside of my grease seals before I press them into place? Also I was thinking that I should coat all the O rings in OMC grease before assembling. Does all of this sound correct?

Re: Do I use gasket sealant????

Are we talking about your '71 Hydroelectric? Are you still using the original aluminum pump housing? If so, yes use a sealant between the stainless plate and gearcase, nothing between the plate and pump housing. Yes use sealer on teh OD of the grease seals, and oil the o-rings. Use sealant on the big o-ring on the bearing housing. OMC Gasket Sealant was the original stuff, but your aviation stuff is ok, just nastier. Assuming you are using the liquid grade with a brush.
