I don't see an air filter in my 1986 johnson 120 but logically it should be in the cowling. Internet searches turn nothing up. I don't have a manaul becaues I have learned I always try to do more than I should so stuff gets broke (expensive stuff) instead of fixed. Can't stand the temptation I guess. lol

Thanks!!

Very few outboards have air filters. There is no need because water traps almost all dust. There are some specialized o/b's that have air filters and I believe that the new Evinrude e-tecs, Merc opti's may have an air filter....

As a rule outboards do not have air filters.

Speaking of expensive -- never ever run a looper under a load without the airbox cover. It'll lean out and you'll need piston part numbers then.

Good luck!

To add to the above info....Yes, water traps dirt, but when you are haulin' butt to the lake, consider where the dirt ends up from that drive down that last 2 miles of dirt road before the lake.......take it slow on the dirt, it WILL collect in places that damage the engine on start-up...
