Do relays burn out if a motor is drawing excess current?

I've got a '04 Starcraft Stardeck with a Volvo Penta SX 5.0L. But this is a generic question... the motor for the trim/tilt went out and I ordered one through here. But do you think the relays burn up with the extra current when it burned out? I ask because it was not working with the toggle switch. I could hear the relays click. But no movement. Then I tried a jumper wire and it worked. So not sure if they relay stopped working.

Anything is possible, the relay contacts may have been going out for some time and just so happened to go. Before you replace verify it actually is the relay. It will be hot on one side, press the switch and see if it goes hot on the other. You could have a broken wire or bad connection on a terminal lug

The wire ends in the wire harness plug for the relays tend to break off . Its best to remove the harness to inspect them .:)
