Do the pistons really interchange?

I've been given a '67-69 (?) 65HP merc that's good as a parts motor only. From external examination, it looks just like my Merc 1000 except that it's got 2 fewer spark plugs. The guy that gave it to me tells me that the pistons and reeds are interchangeable with my '69 100HP merc. Can anyone confirm this?

Gosh, I should have looked it up myself at www.mercruiserparts.com. The answer is NO.
