Do these distributors swap?

I'm new here and would like to start off by saying hello and thanks for the help in advance!

I have two 1977 mercurys, one is a 90hp and one is a 115hp. Everything that I have read and heard is that the distributors (and some other things) are interchangeable. My goal is to take the distributor off the 115 and put it on the 90. Will this work?

I don't have the numbers of the motors right now but I'm 90% sure they are the same year. At worst one is a '77 and one a '78.

From what I understand, every inline 6 distributor from 1969 - 1979.5 will interghange with the exception of the 68 & 69 1250

If its a inline 6 yes,if its a inline 4 yes. They are all Identical from the 70's on up.The only difference between the inline 6 and the inline 4 is the window disc inside the Distributor and the cap. Which can be easy to swap out if needed. (6 window disc. inline 6---4 window disc. inline 4).

That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an exception like 79merc80 said with the 1250.
I will be starting this in the next few weeks, and just want to get all my "ducks in a row".
Thanks guys!

90HP motor from late 70's is an inline six. It should bolt up to the 115HP inline six, w/o issue. if the years are further apart, say 3 or 4 years, you may need to swap the outer collar of the distributor body. The inner distributor body parts are the same.
