Do you need to use a special carpet for the rails on a trailer?

My wooded rails are looking a big bare and I want to redo the carpet. Do I need a marine carpet or can I just use scraps I have from my house carpet?

house carpet will hold water, is not UV resistant, will mildew and stain your hull. You do not need to use marine carpet, but a good outdoor carpet will work OK $5 a square yard at Home Depot.
