Do you think I have damaged my motor?

I have a 1982 60HP Mariner 2cyl 2 stroke. My impeller shreaded and my motor cut out from over heating. Smoke was coming form under the cover. The motor did not seized and it did restart immediately but I did not run it. Since the motor has not seized do you think I have escaped major damage? Should some sort of alarm have gone off?

Grant, Now that the motor has cooled off, perform a compression test. if the cylinders are even and 100+PSI, you should be OK, after you install the necessary new waterpump parts.

Thanks Chris, hope so. Should there be some type of high temp warning on my motor?

should be a warning horn. may be sender or horn is bad.
