No your motor does not have a tell-tale (pee-hole). It uses a heat sending unit that sends a signal to a light on the dash panal. How ever you should see water comming out the exhaust by-pass ports on the back of the leg. Your cooling system is also controled by t-stats. How do you tell if your motor is to hot with out a thermometer? Take a hand full of water and drizzle over the head/cylender area (both banks in your case). If the water sizzles and dries up fast it's too hot. If the water just sort of rolls around and steams a little it's ok. You obviously just got this motor. The very best way to know if your cooling system is working is to replace the pump empeller and inspect and service the rest.
