We are jumping the starter solidnoid with the key turned to get it to crank the motor. It almost fires up, but it won't. We have not found a choke or anything, it has a carb so I'd assume theres a choke somewhere.

Its a 1990 conquest boat.

Do you use the throttle lever at all? It's not an EFI engine like a car that you just hit the key and it starts and runs perfect.

Remove the flame arrester and look into the carb. You'll see a flat rectangular plate (called a butterfly) on a shaft that allows it to swivel. The shaft extends to outside the carb, where it will connect with a linkage rod to an actuator. That will likely be either a heat activated spring, mounted on the center passage (exhaust), or electric. For a cold start, that butterfly should be closed, (to draw more fuel from the jets). As the engine warms up, the choke will open progressively.

I have the same engine and am new at this but what I have learned so far is that you pump the throttle 2-3 time to get some gas into the carb and to set the auto choke for cold start. If you have the same throttle I do it has no button to push to deactivate drivetrain, instead you pull throttle arm toward driver and move forward to rev without engaging.

Another thought...in case you've flooded it the way I did on my second trip out you will need to remove the flame arrester and hold choke open manually. In case you are alone a cloths pin makes a great second set of fingers!
