It won't power up and has a 585260 Power Pack. Does it have a limiter or can a PP go partially bad? Thanks.

Most PPs have RPM limiters (set higher than you would go in normal operation), not 'power' limiters. Electronics can experience intermitant failures, but not usually 'partial' failures.

What symptoms does your motor have? Failure to achieve full power is usually a fuel problem.

That pack has SLOW and if activated it will not rev above 2500rpm. If engine is not getting hot, disconnect the tan wire and pack. If it runs ok test the overheat circuit as they rub & short out in bottom of cowling on port side. If thats ok replace pack.

Is it running on both cyls? What's the compression?

I unplugged the wire to the pack, no change. Then unplugged the tan wire going to the heat sensor which I believe is up by the thermostat. No power.

About 125# compression and nothing wrong with the carbs. It has a new fuel pump kit too.

It is running on both cylinders.

I goofed the last time and disconnected the coil not the PP.

With the engine running I disconnected the tan wire and nothing changed. I the took the PP wiring harness apart and the motor died. You say it should stay running?

So compression is good, spark is suspect unless you tested it with a spark tester.
Carbs will be suspect if it passes a spark test.
You can't test the spark strength by using a sparkplug.

This forum is a lot easier to use if you describe the problem fully first .
When were the carbs rebuilt ?

The carbs are ok and even if the spark tester showed a 7/16" jump doesn't mean it will have one under load. My last mechanic said PP's couldn't be tested . Not sure why unless it isn't conclusive. A DVA adapter would be nice.

Can't see how it would run without the pack connected.
