Does a 2002 115hp Merc Saltwater need to be flushed?

I think it's a 2002.
Buddy just got one, and was wondering if it should be flushed after saltwater use. He uses it solely in saltwater.
Also, what makes the motor a "saltwater" motor? What differences are there?
Thanks, just curious.

ALWAYS!!!!! flush after each use.Unless your going right back in.Salt water will start to eat everything it's setting in.
The difference in saltwater motors.Some paint.thicker metal in some cases.Zincs are added in some cases.Stainless steel in some places.J

A saltwater motor is not impervious to the effects of salt. It's just protected better than a standard issue model. Flushing will help it last longer no matter what model you have...
