Does a refrigerator have to be tipped back?

I took apart the kitchen and have a Norcold frig. From the looks of it the previous owned either had the screws holding the weight or it was tipped back. There was a piece of 1x2 in the front as part of the wall base and nothing in the back. Any reason?

When I rebuild the kitchen is there a reason I should not let it sit right on the fiberglass base flat?

Could be as simple as keeping things organized in the fridge, or there may be a mechanical reason. Is or does it look factory?

How's it oriented in the Boat? Could it be that way to account for the tilt of the boat to keep it level?

Here is a picture. The little space below the frig is that 1x2. there was nothing in the back so I think that the front screws were holding it. When I rebuild the front I want to have the frig sit right on the glass flat all the way back without that 1x2 space below.

The picture isn't helping us too much I'm afraid, hard to see what you see based on the picture. Got a bigger one perhaps?

When a fridge is installed in a home it is common practice to tip it slightly back so the doors self close and anything spilled in the fridge stays contained within it. My guess is this is why it was done that way.
