Does Anybody Know Anything About Gill Brackets ?
i just bought a 20' CC C halk boat with a 100hp. 4 stroke Yamaha on it.
what's the pro's and con's on gill brackets.
i know the boats handle better with them but, with the extra weight or do to the motor sitting further off the back, do i have to worry about the boat sitting lower in the water and making my deck drains sit to low in the water ?
things I've read say for every foot the boat is long is how many inches the motor should be back.
any help would be very much appreciated !!

Welcome to iBoats!

Sooo... Does your boat currently have one on it, or are you wanting to put one on it and if so Why. Most of the ones I have seen were used to convert an I/O boat to and Outboard. Sounds like yours is already an outboard. Pics are always helpful for us to give proper advice.

yes, the boat has a 100hp. 4 stroke Yamaha on it and from renting other boats in the keys with them. I think it makes them handle a lot better.
i tried downloading a picture for you but failed so, when i find someone to help me, i'll post a pic for you.

My signature has a link on how to download your pics. As for the backets, IMHO they put a lot of stress on the transom and if it is not properly reinforced, can damage the structural integrity of your stern. Just my opinion.

i'm not worrying about the transom !
it's well built with plenty of supports and in very good shape.
i just need to know if it'll change the weight drastic to where my
deck drains will sit to low.

That motor looks like it is on the wrong boat! very nice, but would look a lot better on mine! other than my sarcasm, I have nothing useful to add! I don't even know what a gill bracket is

Again, IMHO there is no way I'd put a Gill Bracket on that boat with that transom. The boat is not designed for it. Others may have another opinion.

What are you looking for it to do? Handling can mean different things to different people.

There is no way for someone to tell you if your self bailing deck drains will still work correctly unless they had the exact same boat, motor and bracket, which is unlikely.

Very common down here. The prop is now efficient as it has cleaner water to run in. The transom does not need to be cut out. Much safer in following seas. I don't understand the point about every foot how far the motor should be back. Weight is weight. Look at the brand new ones. The bracket is integrated, but serves the same purpose. Here's a used Contender, one of the best CC's made 1986 still worth 40K. Motors on a bracket. http://www.spearfishingplanet.com/f2/contender-25-w-150-yamahas-hpdi-22264/

Here's another top name boat. Commercially used, motors on a bracket. 94 asking 45K

1988 on a bracket

Custom built Deno built but and for the owner of Deno boats. 1997 asking 65K motors on a bracket

These are not summer good weather boats. These are run hard all year in all types of seas and weather and many times 85 miles off shore. Pushed hard with full crews and hundreds and hundreds of pounds of gear and fish.
