Hello everybody,

I found this boat and the owner is selling at what it seems a very good price, including trailer.

But i cannot seem to identify the hull by any means, every search over the internet leads me to nothing. In the manufacturer's plate says:

Built by
Southern fiber glass products
Sanford, FL

Its a 19 footer... any ideas please?

Here's a link with all the pictures of the boat:
http://www.geocities.com/rtamburini/SFGP.html

A million thanks.

The link doesn't open for me but Southern Fiberglass (Sanford/Orlando) was the original mfg of the Cobia boat line in the 1960s. The company name changed later to Cobia Boats. Heavily built and pretty much bullet proof construction back then. I've owned a 1965 vintage Cobia for 20+ yrs.

looks kind of like an old Stamus step thru runabout but the bow is a bit pointy. They are Florida boats.

Thanks for the info guys, i may be planning to rebuild it, taking the side console off and making it a center console for nearshore trolling-bottom fishing, and being a sturdy hull i could give it a chance...

one last question if somebody knows:

The stringers on those boats (circa 1982)were made out of solid fiberglass or they were fiberglass over wood? i just want to know if gutting it could be too much of a job for a begginer?

Thank you again.

more than likely wood under glass stringers... i seriously doubt they were solid glass

The link worked for me this time. That hull is almost identical to my 1965 17' Cobia SeaQueen cuddy. The only difference I can see is strakes added to the vee...mine doesn't have them. This hull design was used on several sizes by Cobia from the 60s through the 80s.

Construction on yours is probably all wood and similar to mine. It originally had a 1/2" ply core set on the bottom and glassed over with 3 spruce 2"x thick stringers, 5/8" ply floor and two 3/4" layers of ply for the transom.
