Does anyone else not "get" fishing? Not that I don't fish/crab & enjoy it w/ the kids
I'm talking about this 'thing' that some people have for fishing. I like fishing. I enjoy the experience. We go fishing. Hey, we catch some fish. We go crabbing. Hey, we catch some crabs. It can be fun, and if you go offshore, it can test you. It's a day out and all that.
But the amazement when an adult pulls up an average fish or two, and it isn't their first. Da'hell is that?! Or, how they blather on about which fish are running, slack tides, this jig, that bait, my rod this and blah blah blah.
Dude... here' my 30 year-old rod and a basic top/bottom rig. BAM. A couple of fish. Some traps and bunker. BAM. Crabs.
I don't hold up the fish and become overwhelmed with a need to have someone snap a pic as I hold it out in front of me to trick the camera and eye. Oh, let me run home and talk about all those nibbles. Oh, here's Kingfish; that's gonna give me a headache when the adult I am with talks about it like it was un-catchable until he reeled it in.
My gawd. Can we just get up early and go fishing, please? Can we just enjoy the whole day? Must we stay in the bait and tackle shop and talk about all the fish you think you can catch and how you did eleventy-two days ago on a given tide, with a given bait, etc? Does this need to be painful?
Keep your gear ready, grab the bait, and let's go. And when we pull one in, don't act like the bozo NFL wide-receiver who has to act like he's never been in the end zone.
