Does anyone have a wiring diagram for an ignition switch, or a photo of the back?

1988 Bayliner Capri, OMC 2.3.

I am having a problem with my ignition cutting out or sticking on. I have been through 3 starter solenoids, and am unsure of the wiring at the ignition switch itself.

Mine cranks the boat, but there is a loose brown wire there that is attached to nothing. It was like this when I bought the boat. I have the color wiring diagram for this boat, but it doesn't show the correct wiring for the switch itself.

Thanks.

One used to be able to download owners manuals for non-current Bayliners at the Bayliner site. The owners manuals actually had a helm wiring schematic as I recall.

I didn't see one there. I did downlaod a huge shop manual last year, cant remember from where, but looking last night I didn't see a wiring diagram for the ignition.

This is not the original switch, it had been replaced before I got it and I replaced it myself last season. I just replicated what wiring had been done there, but that one loose brown wire has me wondering.

CORRECTION: I did find that section, but it stops at 1980 (despite claiming to go back to 1977). The website seems to be experiencing problems but I will keep trying.

just checked - they're still there - Capri only goes back to 1990, but I suspect an 88 and 90 key switch wiring are the same.

OMC service manual not going to do you any good - helm wiring is all Bayliner specific- they didn't buy any helm harnesses from their engine suppliers like some other boat builders. which is why a 1990 with Mercruiser power should still be the same as 88, and if not - email Bayliner - they probably have a scan of the 88 book. I know I have seen the older ones. The page actually says they have "back to 1977"

Well you nailed it!

My govt computer was not liking the webpage, so I had to download it onto my cell phone and email it to myself.

It does indeed have the wiring diagram, though I'm not sure if it will match whatever ignition switch I have installed. At least I can tell now what wires do what.

Thanks for the help, though I suppose this belongs in the Bayliner section now. Here is the link in case anyone needs to get this in the future and happens across this post.
