Is there anyway to replace unavailable ignition coild? I have a sears 7HP outboard model # 217-59440 that I cannot locate a coil for. I have checked online, auto parts stores and marinas, the only advice I recieved was to dump the motor in the trash and replace it. This motor has an electronic ingition system, the coil has one connector from the electronic module and a spark plug wire. Can I purchase a coil from a different motor? Does anyone know what makes the coils different and how to determine which to purchase?

Any help would be greatly appriciated,

Scott

Have you tried a mower shop?
Since Eska made that outboard for sears (1971 by the way), and Eska used Techumseh engines for them, a mower shop should find the coil strangely familiar. Just don't let them know it's for an outboard.

Eska outboard Resource

Paul,

Thanks for the info, I had heard that this may be a tecumseh motor so I went to two power equiment dealers and a Napa store and mentioned that I thought that this may be a tecumseh coil. I looked through ther parts book but there was nothing similar, all the coils for tecumseh motors were for mounting on the outside of the flywheel not under it like on the engine I have.
