Re: does anyone know the timing specs on a 66 60hp johnson
V4SL-12 shows up as a 1960 75hp. Does this engine have magneteo or battery ignition?

Timing on these engines is set by the point gap 0.020". On the battery system The cam on the distributor shaft should have reference mark showing where the point rubbing block should be when the point gap is at its widest.
The magneteo system is set similarly. There are some timing reference marks on the flywheel/block and on the distributor pulley/bracket. These marks are used for installing the timing belt. Carb seting were 1 1/2 from lightly seated. Once adjusted seperately for best idle the syncronization link between the two can be hooked up.
OH the Heck with it GET A SERVICE MANUAL, it will explain it and show pictures.
