Does HP even matter?

I have been searching (boat forums, boat shops, johnson, iboats, etc.) for weeks trying to determine my motors hp! So far not even the places that are willing to sell parts for it (i.e. iboats, crowley,NAPA) can tell me. So, if they don't know that, How can they know what parts I need. I have a 1985 OMC Sea Drive 1.6
Model # 2BBXCOM,All I can find is its a 1.6 (2BBX)? with an extra long shaft(COM)
Serial# J859905 Appears to be a Johnson #(J85) but I can't find any site that says Johnson ever made an 85hp in 85', and all other Johnson serial # have letters following, not #s (9905)
Is this the only one in existence? I really need some help here. I have it torn down (see post "Bow in the Air") to sleeve a cylinder and replace a piston. Everything else looks good:cool:

The serial number doesn't matter, 99% of the time. The model number is the only thing needed to buy parts for your Sea Drive.

Thanks CAT, but several of the sites I've tried ask for the hp and without it won't let me go further.

Yah...rigid database query forms that don't take the uniqueness of the Sea Drives into consideration. You may have to bypass the online searches and call the places directly and speak to a human. Sorry.

Even though the Sea Drive is based on an outboard motor, you are going to have trouble trying to cross reference it. Best you go to an Evinrude dealer.

It's a 1.6L 1985 Sea Drive. It memory serves, the 1.6L was based on the 1985 & up 115hp/pre 1984 140 crossflow V4. If you need parts for the motor itself, ask for ones from a 1985 Johnson 115. Parts unique to the Sea Drive system might be harder to get...

I had a 1.6L seadrive. Even our local Evinrude dealer used to tell me they don't make parts for that motor anymore, he would say it is obsolete. I finally started just telling him I needed a part for an 86 115 Johnson. Got tired of argueing.
