I was curious if there is a rule of thumb for the length of the gas line past the bulb.

I know you could make it sooo long it probably wouldnt allow gas to pump to the engine.

I replaced mine with a longer hose and I think it works but was wondering if the shorter the better.

Thanks ;)

Spur,

This is ONE case that shorter may or not be better. All the priming bulb does is just that-prime. Once the fuel is flowing, who cares.

Your long hose after the bulb may magnify weak fuel pump problems. It's not the bulb, it's the length of the hose period.

Thanks DJohn, I thought it may make a difference. Is it ok to have length before the bulb? Or as a general rule should I keep it as short as possible throughout

Id agree the lengh total of the fuel line is what counts, not where the bulb is, but probably not for much. The speed of the fuel flowing in the line causes friction, and you can reduce that friction by increasing the diameter of the fuel line if you figured out you had a problem. Another significant factor is how high the fuel has to be lifted to get to the engine. That said, I vote for having the bulb in a convenient place nearer the tank so you will fill the bulb sooner, prime that pump, and start pumping the incompressible fuel up to the engine

Thanks alot, I told my wife size dont matter, she didnt believe me :D

Next I take care of the carb. Wish I had the schematics for the dang thing.

I looked at the manuals and they are like 35 bucks for a manual that I only need ten or so pages out of, oh well guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Try the library. Also, go to 3/8 inch hose if you're worried about the lenght.

I used to fish alot by myself. To balance out how the boat sat in the water(12footer)and to get on plane faster I put a longer hose on the gas tank and put it at the front of the boat. I left the primer bulb close to the tank. Never had any problems

Wipper
