Does motor setting stop cavitation?

After smacking bottom with the original prop on the 50 horse merc. I replaced it with a little bigger dia.-less pitch-prop. What I have noticed now is that I cannot get up to WOT with out getting what I would call prop slip-cavitation. I don't have power trim and tilt but I do have a pin that regulates the tilt up or down. Would I be better off with the motor tilted all the way down-in- or all the way up--out? Or would I see any noticeable difference either way? I have been running it tilted about half way up.

Dropping it down would set it a bit deeper and should help.

Yup, keep playing with different holes until you find one that works, trim on a pontoon doesn't really have that much affect especially with a smaller engine ike a 50.

If you can't get it with the pin you may need to drop the engine a hole.
