was out on the lake this week, at one point had 7 people in the boat, got on plane, running about 5k rpm's, then i see the tach drop to 4k, and i have no more left on the throttle. so im wondering if i hit a governor with all the weight in the boat? kinda worried..........

I used to have an '86 Bayliner with that engine. I don't think it has a governor. Even if it did, it shouldn't limit you to 4k. I don't remember what WOT was on that engine but it's higher than that. Did the sound of the engine change when the tach dropped 1k rpms? You may have a bad tach.

On edit: I'm sorry, it was an '89 Bayliner, if it matters.

Normal WOT on the '89 2.3 is 5200-5600. With a new hustler 13.25x 17 I got 43 GPS @5400RPM. Its got a few nicks in in it now and only goes 40-42, but still works ok.
Got a 15P hustler through the exchange program (traded for a 19p) and WOW, 2 sec to plane, very fast accelleration, and would be great for skiing-etc, but engine will over rev with a light load..Ths prop is for 6 on the boat or towing ..Chad_E
