I was under the impression that this year most manufacturers didn't have wood in the hull in the late 90s.

But oddly enough, I have a big soft spot in the center where the table mount is, between the "ski" locker area and back seats.

I would suspect this is between the gas tanks 2? I am not sure but I think I'm going to have to find out how much wood if any is in the floor and what is causing a soft area of 2 feet x 2 feet.

Where can I find an exploded line drawing of the hull for this year?

Well, good luck on finding drawings....many have tried and many have failed...

As far a the soft deck, just sounds like a very typical rot issue. Post up some pictures so we can see what you see.

On the "no wood" well there are some that have gone to composites but many still use wood today. I can't say when or if Larson has gone to " no wood" construction, but '98 I would doubt it is all composite materials.

My 1997 Larson 206 SEI has a area above the gas tank that is made out of wood. If it is carpeted, you should be able to see the seperation line in the carpet. There is about a million screws holding it into fiberglass stringers. There are also two 2x4's that span the gas tank when the would is removed. I had to replace mine last year.

How much did it cost to replace it?

I had between $50-75 invested total in mine.

I'm unfortunately familiar with this as I had to replace the enire floor on my Larson. Just a few things I'll add: 1.) the stringers are wood encapsulated with fiberglass and are prone to rot due to poor design (not capped adjacent ski locker). I would check them while you have the panel out. 2.) the plywood covering the gas tank is exceptionally thin. I suggest lowering the brackets used to hold the 2x4s that span the gas tank, then use 3/4" ply. Or, just add a few more 2x4's above the tank.

Good luck!

I recently did the same for my 1999 LXI 186. Added two new support beams using L brackets. New 3/4 plywood for deck. View attachment 111951

Thank you. Ok, next question. Did you do that cut out? Is this something I could do?

What do u mean? The cutout isnt something i did. It came from the factory with a cutout to give u access to the gas tank should u need it. Just a couple screws holding the square piece down.

The screws are embedded in the carpet of the gas tank panel. There are a lot of them.
