Does my trolling motor need GPS if my chart plotter already has it?

I'm shopping for a new chart plotter/sonar and trolling motor for my boat and I'm trying to make sense of the network stuff that is all new to me.

I'm looking at lowrance units and motor guides as a system. I only want/need one screen.

Will the GPS in my fish finder work for all the auto pilot stuff on the TM if the TM doesn't have GPS, or do both have to have the GPS? I can save like $600 if I only need the GPS in the fish finder.

It’s about as clear as mud, but it looks like the position and control is done in the motor using a push button interface.

Adding the NMEA 2000 interface and a chartplotter simply provides a graphical interface which to interact with the motor.
