Need to find a good service manual for my 91 4.3L/Alpha 1(Gen II) - Is SELOC a good choice, or is there something better out there that I should look for??

Re: Does "SELOC" make a good manual??

I have a SELOC for my OMC. Easy to read and follow. Before I purchased it, I checked out my local library. They had a copy of the Clymer, which I found not to be as detailed. Some things were in the Clymer, but not the SELOC, and vice-versa. Check the library first. May save you a few bucks.

DragRacer,
It will cost you a little more, but get the factory manuals. One for the motor, one for the drive.Aftermarket manuals are okay in a general sense. The factory ones are specific.
DHP

I agree with DHP, the factory manual will take you right down to every nut and bolt. I found that with seloc and clymer, they tend to generalize with a few different models when doing the procedures. Many times they are not clear enough and it leaves you guessing. That is just my opinion.

Merc 140 you've got mail......as requested. :D

OK I have been looking on ebay for factory manuals and they seem to be numbered. I see manuals like "No. 7", "No. 15", "No. 25", etc. Now how in the hell am I gonna know which ones I need for my particular engine/drive?? Anyone have or know where I can find a list of all the factory Merc manuals by number??

Thanks in advance!!

You will have to get the unit (engine, sterndrive) serial numbers to get the correct manuals. As far as the Seloc and Clymer manuals go, too many times they state, "Refer to manufacturer's maintenance manual". They are a lot cheaper, but when you need correct and timely information, you'll be glad you purchased the factory manuals.
