Does the trim pump continue to run?

Hello,
I was wondering my trim functionality seem to be fine. The outdrive goes up and down and stops at what I can tell Ok positions. My trim guage doesn't work (I have to see why this weekend). My question is, if you continue to hold the trim thumb lever up or down after the out drive reaches it's max, is the pump supposed to continue to run? Mine does yet it stops when using the Trailer Button.

Your trim button stops by itself. Down will run continuously when held down. Trailer switch brings drive to full "up" position & will run after full up.

Ayuh,... The trailer button crowds the valving into a hydrualic stall...

The down cycle goes into a freewheelin' open circuit...

Crowdin' it Up, causes things to get Stuck...
Over trimmin' it Down, just put added time/ wear on the electrical motor...

Btw,... When it crowds up, tap the down button abit to unload it...

So, I really have to fix the Trim Guage to see where I am at?

That or just listen to the sound of the trim pump. When the pump sounds like it's loading up with pressure, the drive is up, and the pressure is building.
You need to learn your boat and what things sound like and do. Practice, practice.

Thanks, I am going to see why the gauge doesn't work. So far I haven' t really payed attention to the sound. I was concerned that the Trim Sensor was bad. I printed the Ohm specs on the sender so I will test it this week end. Thanks for the help.

Ayuh,..Just learn how to run yer boat without the gauge...

The sender wires tend to fall off, outside, under the gimbel housing...
It ends up bein' a $500. or more repair for a .50 wire...

Even if the gauge did work, it would not stop the pump running when it gets full up.
Just get in the habit of hitting the down button for second once you get the drive full up. That will relieve the pressure on the pump.

Re: Does the trim pump continue to run?

Sure the limit switch wires can fall off and the switch can fail, but it too has nothing to do with stopping the drive at full up for trailering, only the trim angle.
