I had a response with a link to a post that said you can time your engine,
Mine is a ('72 50hp Johnson), by removing the plugs and cranking the motor while at full throttle and IF your target is 19 Degree's you set it at 15.

Sounds too simple but worth a try. If it really works it would beat trying to adjust WOT timing on the water!

I have a engine with OIS and it gets it pretty darn close. Gotta ground the plugs to keep from blowing the powerpacks or igniting fuel. I use alligator clips from Radio Shack clipped to the boots.

I dont know if it works for all engine types or only those with electronic ignition. I would assume only electronic ignition.

Thank you all for your help in confirming that it will work, and how to avoid damaging the coils.

I've got it completed and will throw it in the water for a test this weekend!

Appreciate it
