Re: Does this diesel have enough power?
Not looking to max out on speed.....just want to be able to cruise at around 25 mph without putting too much strain on the engine. I was able to contact Eric Denton at Parker Marine and he supplied me with a performance report for this engine on the Parker 2520 DVSC. Here is the abbreviated report for the boat weighing in at 8500 lbs ( loaded weight). If anyone wants the full report they can PM me.
-4.2 D Tronic MercDiesel
-Prop - 25"
-gear ratio - 1.81:1
-2000 rpm - 8.8 mph
-2500 rpm - 24 mph
-3000 rpm - 31 mph
-3500 rpm - 38 mph
-4040 rpm - 42 mph (WOT)
This test was done on a clear day, 85 degrees, 10-15 mph wind, med chop, averaged over three runs. It took 5 seconds to get on plane and 16 seconds to WOT speed.
I'm presently running a Grady 228 with an Evinrude 225 ETEC that certainly gets up and goes much quicker than this but I think the numbers for the 4.2 Mercruiser show that it can handle this boat. Do you agree? Thanks
