Does this motor have a thermostat?

Just got this 1979 mercury 20hp.

Takes about 20-30 seconds before water comes out of pee hole and waters almost hot enough that you can't leave your hand there, then cools alittle after a min.

I took starter off and I can't seem to see thermostat cover.

Seems to have none.

Guess my water pump needs changing.

I had a 40hp merc similar to this one and it would **** in about 3 secs, this one like 20seconds.


hope drive shaft splines are not rusted.
