Does this sound like my serial number?

I have been trying to locate the serial number for my 89 Evinrude 48SPL for sometime now. A service tech at my local marina said to look for a silver circle looking button type thing on the top of the engine and this would be it. I have located that and the number is G2341088, does this sound right to anyone familular with this??
