Does this VHF Antenna need to be soldered?

Need some advice please....I have been doing some reading and discovered why my Marine
VHF radio wasn't picking anything up....I didn't have an antenna....oops :) So I picked one up and I keep reading and have been told to make sure I solder the connector, however with the connections I got with my antenna, I am not really seeing where I would solder anything? There doesn't appear to be any wire to wire soldering needed. Please see the pic for what my connection looks like...to me it looks like the white piece on the cable slides onto the post in the connector, and then thread together....other side of connector goes to back of radio. Am I wrong here??

That type does not get soldered, just screw it together

It's just like hooking up a TV to a cable box - No soldering required. Does the cable thread into the antenna? It looks like the cable male is smaller than the female antenna, but it may be the pic angle.

Perfect, that's what I thought. Yes, the white piece fits in and the threaded barrel behind it threads right in to make one happy connector. Does look large due to the angle, but it all fits nicely together. I was worried since I was told I would blow up the radio without soldering, so just wanted to be sure. Thanks for confirming. Now just gotta wait for these damn T-storms to go away so I can go install it on the boat.

Not a fan of that particular connector. Run it until it acts up and then install a SHAKESPEARE PL-259-CP-G CONNECTOR
