From 05/17/06 Rocky Mountain News: Glenwood Springs, Colo.

An 8 year old was kayaking on the Roaring Fork River, with an (adult) family friend, when the kayak overturned on a snag. The adult was caught up, while the boy was swept away. The adult finally managed to free himself, and climbed up to a nearby road to summon help.

The boy's lifevest was loose, and he was struggling to stay afloat & breath. A half mile downstream, a local girl was tossing sticks into the river for her 2 year old yellow lab, as the boy floated by, still struggling.

The lab quickly switched gears, trading a lost stick for the frantic boy. The lab swam out, and the boy latched on. The lab's owner then called "Zion" to shore, with the boy in tow!
