Slowly getting to the final stages of my boat rebuild. (clarify that comment by saying final stages meaning, final stages before it hits the water, I am sure I will never be done playing a tweaking things!)
I need to build a new doghouse and I am looking for ideas.
Please post any pics of the interior of your boat that contain the doghouse.
Thanks in advance.

Yes I read through his thread it was good.
I am looking more for cosmetic ideas and hope to form the technical portions from there. In other words I have ideas of what I would like to see in it but I am certain if I see what comes stock on other i/o boats to form more ideas and formulate my plan..............
:)

A few basic ideas at this point are as follows

I would like to see it light, using cloth and glassing over it is one idea or using foil backed insulation to form it. That way it would be light and fairly easy to cut to form. I could round the edges etc.....
I will be covering the inside with the foil heat barrier to help reduce noise and heat. I would like it to be one peice and flip forward for access and will easily remove for larger repairs and maintenance. Covering the bottom 8 inches or so in carpet in order to make it a bit more resistant to wear etc......
I would like to have cupholders incorporated in the front/top section and maybe a tray also. Due to the fact that I am an amatuer at glassing comestically this might be skipped for this attempt and maybe added in the next attempt.
Good better, best, never let it rest, until your good is better and your better is best! LOL

Re: Doghouse pics

glassing a form is easy.....

you can use expanding foam to make the shape....just carve whatever shape you want into the foam..(dont make the corners too sharp..then paint the foam with an acrlic enamel....(a can of appliance paint) then use a wax based product.....wax it....really good....then just glass that shape.....after the glass cures....pull the form from the new doghouse....

you dont need a really thick peice of glass....use chopped strand matt. it will go easily around the corners.....paint and done

Re: Doghouse pics

This Old House did an article on dog houses, many of which where built to match the owner's house. Check out their website, do a search.

I built a dog house many years ago and was able to get vinyl siding and roof shingles from local construction sites for free. Just swing by when someone is on site and ask if you can rummage through the bin. You aren't necessarily looking for a whole bunch of materials - you may even be able to find enough 2x or 4x stock for your framing!

Good luck!

Re: Doghouse pics

Hey, some people like their dogs to be comfortable whilst out on their boats...

Personally: I like Oops Idea! I think I'll use it when I do mine!

Oops: Will something along those lines work for things like a built in seat base/cooler as well or would you need to use something like Biax for strength since it will be carrying the weight of a person?

Hey, What's your dogs name?;)

So how long do I get to use the "I'm new to this" excuse? :D

I little more careful reading and an "ah" moment later, I get it . . .

Re: Doghouse pics

Come to think of it, a doghouse would make a pretty good doghouse. It's about the right size. Might look a bit funny :)

My doghouse isn't done yet, I had a problem with the carpet glue I used to cover it, but I've had it out on the lake a couple times. Two adults can sit on it and it doesn't even wiggle. Pretty good for thin plywood, the glass really stiffens it up.

I think you can get at least 4 more freebies before the old salts on this forum start jabbing you too hard.:D
