Doing some research on adding tilt trim

Hi,
I have a 1972 Chrysler, 2 stroke, 85hp. This motor never came with a tilt trim, but I would like to add one.
Has anyone done this here. What tilt trim unit would I use and on a side note, how do I get the the transom mount kingpin out of my motor?

Thanks again.

Did some looking around. I realize I should have done that to begin with.
I think this cap is what's holding the pin in place? Can I get a confirmation on that?

Why do you want to remove the kingpin?
If you add a T@T you won't need to remove it.
The T@T you need is from the older motors.
Good luck finding anything to change it over.
Best bet is find one with T@T already installed.

The kingpin is what's holding the engine on....to remove it you would need a lifting eye mounted on top and a hoist.....major job. Do a search on here for "kingpin" and you will see what is involved.

I have a hoist and I've pulled a dozen engines from vehicles, so this 200 pound engine is no big deal.
The new T&T is suppose to take the place of the old transom mount, hence the need to remove the old mount. I'm out of town for a week and I'll look into it when I get back. And do some reading here for the kingpin.
Thanks

As I'm old, and "mess around" with old outboards, different ones, I ended up springing for a CMC 130hp rated tilt/ trim unit. I am NOT IMPRESSED for a number of reasons
1..."Let's say" that you have any bolt on outboard pretty much properly installed on your boat. When you install the CMC, you have to jack the outboard up a ways to get things to sit as they were without the tilt/ trim
2...If you want to use a clamp on engine, and I USE BOTH occasionally, you either must build, or buy from them for nearly 100 more dollars, an adapter. This jacks the clamp on outboard up ?? about 2" or so, so that in my case I had to re-drill the tilt unit and drop it down to "come out" the same. Part of the reason for this, is that the actuator mounting is in the road of clamps unless raised!!!

3...Also the actuator seems to me to be reversed. Instead of pushing against the bottom of the tilting part, and the upper end against the transom, which would seem to be better leverage, it is angled opposite. I 'played' with this and evidently the oil pickup in the reservoir is such that it will not pull oil when mounted at the other angle. That is, as the thing tilts, the angle changes, leaving it sucking air.

In my opinion, this thing is fairly poorly designed. I actually picked up a couple of tilt units off junk outboards and an seriously thinking of "trying it myself."

This item by the way, is about a grand U.S. dollars

I'm going with used parts also. Part of the problem is I'm in northern NM and boat salvage yards are hard to come by in the desert.
But it's a project boat, in overall great condition and a great running motor, only thing missing is the t&t. And I bought it for a grand. So I don't mind spending some money on it to fix it up. If nothing else then it'll be a learning experience.
