dolefins?

Was thinking about sticking a set of these on a johnson 30 which is going on the back of a 3.8M alloy pontoon boat. The boat will have a high screen at the front (like a short cuddy cabin we call them a dodger over here) and will be driven from a standing position.

The boat will be used on some roughish bar crossings at times and I have read that they can push a boat on a wave making the steering downhill interesting. Anyone got any comments on dolefins and other after market devices like permatrims?

While I've not seen them on a pontoon, many people use them on regular boats with mixed success. Those of us who use trim tabs (Smart Tabs or the electric or hydraulic versions) generally try and talk people out of using them.

I have no problem with Doelfin. They provide a product that works, in many instances.

I think a pontoon, with light power, is probably a pretty good fit. Pontoons tend to cavitate. The Doelfin will help eliviate that.

You should not have any handling issues with your pontoon, considering your power.

If you decide to install them, you may want to work with the height of the engine on the back of the toon. What you want to get is the fins on top of the water as much as possible at WOT. With them riding under the water, it will have a tendency to slow you down from the drag.

I adjusted my 50horse Johnny up twice before I got it where I wanted it. Made a difference. The motor still runs like crap but not as bad....I really need to work on that thing......:^
