More as a warning: I was doing the Joe Reeves method to check and set my full advance timing. (Felt like I was a little off at WOT.
I only had one spark plug tester. So I set that on the top plug wire and unplugged the bottom and hung it over the side of the cowling away from everything.
The timing was too far advanced by 1 degree - (read 16 and should read 15 - plus 4 puts at 19 for proper setting.) so I retarded it and re checked - now all set.
go to do a test run - wouldn’t idle and only firing on top cyl- opened up the power pack swapped 1 and 2 leads and swapped plug wires (so assumed good coil was now set to bottom). As I feared, now firing on bottom. No spark from coil 2. Got home and confirmed with my tester. New coil ordered.
TLDR: adhere to what you’ve read. don’t try to start or turn over the engine without your plug wires hooked up to something or your day might get ruined and you may be out $40 on a new coil.
