Doe's anyone have first hand experience with donating a boat to charity? (tax wise). I recently purchased a new Chapperral bowrider, traded in the old boat. Now the dealer is saying I might be better off donating the old one, rather than have him try to sell the old one. Is this legit or a dealer scam? Thanks for any replies.

People donate their boats all the time. Look at Ebay for Boat Angels and such. There are legitimate tax benefits to it. But they are a lot tighter now. Used to be you could claim fair market value, now I BELIEVE it is the actual sale price.
