i have a 1977 175 it started missing so i done a compression test, 5 of the cylinders where around 95 and one was at 25, could it be rings or what. is it worth fixing
If it were mine, I'd take the cylinder head off the suspect cylinder bank, and take a peek. If it appeared to be badly boogered up, I believe I'd look for a parts motor on craigslist of the same year, or a used powerhead on ebay or some other source. I personally, wouldn't want to invest in new pistons and overbore, etc. , in a powerhead/lower unit that old.
