I have asked you this before, but I can't find the post. I would like to know, briefly, the steps in removing the motor and outdrive. This is a Volvo AQ125-A w/ 270 outdrive (no motor mounts to support weight of motor). My Seloc manual will be here in two days, and if it describes the process adequately, save yourself the typing and I appriciate your reading my post.

Other than the throttle cables, exhaust hoses, fuel lines and other wiring connections. The big thing is to remove the upper gear box and ujoint bellows, then get a sling on the engine to support the engine weight when you release those last 6 screws. (No front motor mounts ya know, it will fall into the bilge)
Then bend the locking tabs down and remove the 6 bolts in the ring.
Lift the engine out.

83Bayliner16,

You are in for the long haul. You better remove everything, floor gas tank, etc. I bet the stringers are rotten as well as the transom. D0 you have a 1" gap between the transom and the bottom of the drive sheld? Then the trnsom is rotted also. Does the trim work?? Can you spin the motor by hand? I can tell you by experience that you are going to spend atleast $3000 to bring this boat back and that is if your motor dosent need a rebuild. (mine didnt)

Hey Bsturkie, where did most of the expense come from? I'm in the construction industry, so I got all of the wood for free. I've already got the floor , seat platforms, all compartments torn out. I just have to put the motor and outdrive to replace the rotten transom. The bottom bolts have started digging in to yhe transom, so I know there is rot in there. The work doesn't bother me at all. I'm have a great time gutting this beast. And, the expense will not bother me knowing that I will have a good boat without the payment. The motor turns over fine and almost fired up. I,m sure that little bit of 2 year old gas had something to do with it not starting. I will be rebuilding everything but the piston rings and I'm not going to touch the cam. No sir, you will not discourage me, Bsturkie. I will keep pressin' on.

83bayliner, I'm not trying to discourage you by anymeans, but what I had to learn the hard way was all of the little things that add up quick. The motor we have has some expensive parts to it. I'm now looking for a cap for the sea water strainer and it runs about $40, just for the cap. I replaced every stich of wood in my boat besdes the transom inwitch I will have to replace next season. You are right, if you complete this, you will have a good boat.

I was just messin' with ya. But you are right about the expensive parts. I need a tilt motor ($150), and I need a cap for the tilt relay box that I can't find at all. I have to have a new prop ($180 for a genaric), carpet, seats, polyester resin, mat, cloth, etc. I have to spend $200 just for floatation foam...$200 FOR FOAM! It's gonna get pricey, but still not as pricey as a new boat. I'll just keep checking out photos like yours to keep my hopes up.

Thanks man, I think my girlfiend is going to leave me if I don't stop spending so much $ on this boat....I'll miss her...anyway, Have you done a compression check? My AQ125 had 160, 160, 160, 155. very good because this boat was mostley run on Lake Murry in SC. Eitherway, check compression, if good, replace the impeller! Take it from me, I turned my motor over without checking it, the rubber was brittle and broke into 1,000 little bits that then got stuck in the heat exchanger. It may have been a blessing in disguise, for I needed to clean the exchanger anyway. Anyway, good luck, and I posted more pics last night.
