no go on the BY model VST tanks.
here is my plan.
I am going to use the late style power steering cooler found on the SX style package with the nutra salt port brazed off.
the seawater nipples are the same size as the original VST nipples.
I will use the hose and clamp method used on the 50 PSI yamaha systems. even though the return fuel is usually less than 3 psi.
I will have to replumb the rail return using the 3/8ths cooler nipples then back to the tank.
what do ya think?
volvo is telling me it may be 6 months or more to get them.
I have a stack of brand new power steering coolers.

Re: DonS

Sorry it took so long to answer, Just couldn't see how it could possibly work and had to think about it for a while.
I think as long as the return fuel from the Press reg is going back to the tank it should work. IF you plumb in a new connection in the tank, I wouldn't try plumbing to the vent line.
I have made return line plates for diesel engines using 3/8 aluminum plate. Then drilled, and screwed into the tank using standard fuel tank sender gaskets for the sea. It's a common gasket that can be purchaced anywhere and used for gas tanks. Also, the proper hose and fittings will be manditory, or keep your attorney's phone number handy! (That is more for others reading this than you)

Re: DonS

yea, USCG regs are what its all about.
as this boat has twins and 3 tanks I am going to route as follows, pressure regulator to cooler, cooler to return fuel inlet currently on the VST.
I am just debating on having threaded bungs brazed on the cooler and pipeing it or using approved flex lines.
most of the time the return fuel has less than 3 PSI but the potential for 50 is there so it will be plumbed accordingly.
I cant belive Volvo cannot tell us a release date on the original aluminium VST's. we have one supplier that has had 3 on backorder since september 05.
whats bad is I just replaced the 7.4 long block on the port side and the stbd VST plugged and shut of the seawater to the heat exchanger.
we have over 4K invested in the port side and cannot deliver the rig and get paid until I do something about the VST cooler.
