Re: dont know what to order
Yes add at least two feet, (three feet would also werk, and maybe werk better). I would experiment with a stiff cable of some sort prior to purchase.
You then coil the cables at the base of the power head under the motor bracket, (make sure not to pinch the cables and then route them in a circle so they come back and attach in the proper place to corntrol the engine.
Looks very nice and werks very nice as well.
If you can find a used set of corntrols on fleabay, (a bone yard), or some such it would be likely much cheaper then all brand new stuff like you are pondering, (if you decide to buy my new bare bones Merc Corntrol you need the wirin' , ignition, n' choke corntrol, as I said in the email I sent you). It pays to shop using the parts numbers I sent you. I bought a brand new internal harness fer me 1500 30% cheaper then any other place by shopping a lot. The harness werks GREAT!!!!! Many times iboats is the cheapest, and the standard by which I judge others. Methinks they are very cheap on those cables you need.
I certianly would make sure the engine is sound before making such a large investment for the corntrols. Cornpression check is the VERY minimum I would do!!!!
Too bad you are not nearby I could loan you a set of corntrols to torch her off and test her prior to assembling the corntrols. See if some will lend you a set near where you live so you can try her out.
Moral to this story: make sure ya get corntrols when ya buy an old engine!!!!
Hope this helps. JR
