door jam switch

hey guys:

was going to install some lights in storage areas/engine compartment. live wells and was wondering if it's typical to install a door jam switch ?

it seems like this is the way to go, But having difficulty finding the switch. Not sure if it's standard to just wire direct.

Lawnpro, I am doing that very thing presently and I am going to use magnetic reed type switches. They are enclosed and when you open the lid or door the magnet allows the switch to turn on. Check them out and see how they work. Perfect for your project...
